Bhooth Bangla is a Hindi horror-comedy directed by Priyadarshan. And yes, the moment you hear that name along with Akshay Kumar, expectations automatically shoot up.

This film actually brings back that old-school combo vibe which people loved in movies like Hera Pheri and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. So you kind of go in expecting comedy, confusion, and some light horror mixed together.

The setup is simple — a man inherits an old palace and plans a wedding there. But of course, things don’t stay normal for long.

The story follows Arjun, who returns from London and decides to host his sister’s wedding in their ancestral palace located in Mangalpur.

At first, everything looks fine. Big palace, perfect setting, family function… all good.

But then things start getting weird.

Locals in the village already seem scared of that place. They avoid it, they warn about it, but Arjun doesn’t take it seriously in the beginning. For him, it’s just superstition.

Then slowly, strange incidents start happening inside the palace.

Look, I’ve said this before, and keep this firmly in your mind that whenever you see the teaser of any of Priyadarshan’s movies, you’ll likely not like it, but his movies still hold a special place in people’s hearts. People have high expectations for his upcoming movie, Bhoot Bangla, because whenever Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar have collaborated, they’ve never failed. I think Bhoot Bangla is finally here, so let’s talk about it while we’re at it.

Look, honestly, I didn’t laugh or get scared after watching it. I didn’t feel that way at all. But honestly, I’m also very excited for this film. I told you the reason at the beginning.

Now, aside from the meme dialogues he’s used from his own films, the “sister is scared” one and the Rajpal Yadav “I’m like a temple bell” one. I mean, why is it needed? Whereas they’ve already become popular memes.

Instead of giving us such nostalgia, you should have given us something new. CV doesn’t want Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Chup Chup Ke, and Hera Pheri again because they’re already cult classics. We want a fresh version of comedy so we can tell people, like Hera Pheri and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, that Bhoot Bangla’s dialogues are fresh and new.

Will there be memes about that too? No. While these two dialogues will make you feel nostalgic, you’ll also be disappointed. I did. I wanted something new. But anyway, let’s talk about them now.

So, acting-wise, there’s no problem. All the actors are legendary. Akshay Kumar is also seen in his old comic zone, which we’ve always been demanding.

Now, story-wise, I think one thing is this. I mean, it’s my speculation. There’s probably no talk of Akshay and Vamika getting married here. Akshay and Vamika are probably from event management.

And they’ll come to this haunted palace for someone else’s wedding. Someone else’s, meaning Akshay and Vamika will probably rent that bungalow for the wedding of the boy and girl you see at 2 minutes 28 seconds.

Now, there’s the threat of Vadhusur, a vampire or demon who kidnaps newlywed brides. And I don’t know why I feel a connection to Tabu.

The first reason for this is that Tabu’s character definitely has a backstory. The frame at 2 minutes 14 seconds seems a bit old-fashioned, and Tabu is dancing in the middle.

And even more confirmation is this frame. At 2 minutes 15 seconds, Tabu has a tree-like ring on her head. At 2 minutes 19 seconds, a tree-shaped statue is placed in a room.

And the look and presentation of Vadhusur looks very much like that tree. So, there’s either a Tabu connection somewhere, or Tabu is the bride herself.

And I don’t know why, zoom in on the male dancer with Tabu at 2 minutes and 14 seconds. He looks like Akshay from the back story. If you zoom in closely, you’ll probably think the same thing.

At 1 minute and 28 seconds, it’s also revealed that Paresh Rawal’s character is bald in this film. He’s wearing a wig in the remaining scenes. I mean, I just told you that he looked like that.

The rest is fine. I didn’t get any Bhool Bhulaiyaa-esque feeling, nor did I like Stree more. I wasn’t scared, nor did I laugh. I just watched it, and it was over.
