Mrithyunjay is a thriller film directed and written by Hussain Sha Kiran.
At first glance, it looks like a simple investigation story. But once it starts moving, you realize it’s more about doubt, obsession, and how far someone can go just to prove something is wrong.
The film doesn’t try to be flashy. It keeps things tight and focused. And honestly, that works in its favor.
The story kicks off with a death that police quickly label as natural. Case closed. Simple. But not for the main character.
He feels something is off. No solid proof at the beginning, just a strong feeling that things don’t add up. And instead of ignoring it, he decides to dig deeper.
That’s where everything starts getting complicated.
What begins as a basic doubt slowly turns into a full-blown investigation. He starts finding small details, tiny inconsistencies that most people would ignore. And those details begin to connect.
But the more he digs, the more dangerous it becomes.
People don’t want the truth to come out. Situations start turning against him. And at some point, it’s not just about solving a case anymore. It becomes personal. you’ll notice the film doesn’t rush. It takes its time building tension. Sometimes it even feels slow, but that slow burn actually helps in creating that uneasy feeling.
By the end, it’s less about “who did it” and more about “what truth really costs.”

This is one of those films where you need a bit of patience. If you go in expecting fast-paced action or constant twists, you might feel it’s slow. But if you sit with it, it slowly pulls you in. Sree Vishnu does a solid job here. His performance feels controlled, not overdramatic. You can actually sense that internal conflict — like he knows he might be wrong, but still can’t stop himself.
The biggest strength of the film is its mood. It keeps this slightly tense, uneasy feeling throughout. Nothing too loud, but enough to keep you thinking.
At some places, yes, it drags. Especially in the middle portion. You might feel like “thoda cut ho sakta tha.” But then again, that slow pace is what builds the tension later.
Music is minimal. Background score doesn’t scream for attention, which is good. Cinematography is clean and realistic, nothing fancy.
The story itself is not something completely new. We’ve seen investigation thrillers before. But the way it focuses on doubt and obsession makes it feel a bit different.
Also, the film doesn’t spoon-feed everything. You have to stay engaged, otherwise you might miss small details. If you like thrillers that are more about thinking and less about action, this one can work for you.
